Design for the systems that run intelligence.

Design Lead for AI, energy and data-centre systems. Interfaces for the people who run the models, the halls and the power, built on a design system I wrote for exactly that.

Design system

A house that runs on its own power

Solar, a battery, the car on the drive and the grid, in one live component of the system.

How I think.

Four rules from the system I design by. They are written down, so a team can hold me to them.

Colour is the reading.

A rack glows amber because it runs warm, never because amber looked good next to the logo. If a colour carries no reading, it goes.

Design the bad afternoon.

Any dashboard reads on a calm day. I design for the heatwave, the price spike and the curtailment at 17:45, then check the calm day still reads.

Never claim more than the system does.

An estimate says estimate. A location blurred to a district says district. On an operator's screen, trust is the product.

Show where a number comes from.

Every figure should open into the layers behind it: the hall behind the campus, the rack behind the hall, the job behind the rack.

Six design systems. One way of thinking.

From white-label hiring software to five energy platforms and an iPhone notebook, each one is a set of tokens, components and written rules that a team can build on.

Cortex

AI products, search and energy. Self-initiated.

Every component ships as plain HTML and as React from one stylesheet, and every colour is a token.

From model to megawatt.

Every answer an AI gives draws on a chain: an agent, a rack, a breaker, a feeder, a turbine. I design along all of it, so the person at each link can see what the next one is doing.

  1. 01

    Agents

Plans, tools and the hand-offs between them.

  2. 02

    Compute

Racks, accelerators and the jobs that queue for them.

  3. 03

    Power

Breakers, feeds and the load each one carries.

  4. 04

    Grid

What the campus draws, and what the grid can give.

  5. 05

    Generation

Wind, sun and batteries, and when each one is there.

A designer who builds the system underneath.

13+ years designing products, from fintech and e-commerce to fitness and AI. Lately the work has moved down the stack, to the people who run the models, the racks and the power.

I design and I build: SwiftUI, React, and the design systems that keep a hundred screens telling the same truth. Based in Taipei.

Off the clock.

I travel a lot, photograph almost everything, and read about technology and design every day. It is where most of my ideas, and a few of my apps, begin.

  • A stacked designer toy sculpture in a shopping mall
  • A temple spire seen through a fisheye lens
  • A portrait against a high-rise skyline
  • Tokyo Tower lit orange at night
  • A wide-angle selfie in a huge stone plaza
  • A portrait on a Kyoto street with a pagoda behind
  • A ginkgo-lined path in autumn
  • A tower lit red at night
  • A tiny-planet panorama of a glowing blue dome garden
  • Walking up a street toward a pagoda
  • A harbour full of boats below green hills
  • A hillside town with a winding road
  • A narrow alley lit by red lanterns
  • A wide-angle selfie before a shrine gate
  • A steel tower above a reflecting pool
  • Standing on a mountain road
  • Skyscrapers against a soft evening sky
  • An orange-roofed hall above a patterned garden
  • A quiet street with yellow trees
  • A portrait on a street lined with yellow ginkgo
  • A white bridge over a river and tall buildings
  • A garden at dusk with a stone urn
  • A kiosk built inside a giant whale sculpture
  • A curved panorama of a pond and pavilion
  • A close-up of an eagle owl
  • A yellow Transformers helmet on a shelf
  • A lotus flower among lily pads
  • A gold Buddha in front of a mirrored halo
  • Acrobats stacked in a human pyramid on a red stage
  • A designer art toy of a girl holding a cat
  • A green tree python coiled up
  • A golden temple tower against a blue sky
  • A giant Snoopy sculpture in a shopping mall
  • A green collectible figure in a glass case
  • A green and gold archer statue at sunset
  • An orangutan in a pink shirt
  • A stone guardian lion wearing a red ribbon
  • A colourful kirin statue by a pond
  • A giant sleeping dachshund sculpture
  • A red neon dragon in a night plaza
  • A figurine of a boy holding an umbrella
  • A golden elephant finial against a blue sky
  • Standing in a glowing pink room
  • A lone walker on a red running track

Photographs from my travels: temples and towers, street scenes at night, animals, art toys and flowers.

I design every kind of experience, for every platform.
